Gutter Cleaning Tips
Cleaning the gutters is a task that many people look at as a form of torture. It is not because it is a hard job, it just takes a lot of time that you could be doing something more productive. However, it is a task that you must do. If you neglect your gutters you are going to be out of hundred of dollars later, after the leaves become piled up, the gutters will no longer function. Plus, if there is rain in the bottom of the gutters, which there will be, you will find that you may even have the gutters falling off of the house, which could mean that water gets underneath your shingles, and ultimately lead to having to replace the roof. Needless, to say cleaning the gutters is a must do task.
In order to make sure that you get the most productivity out of the job, you will need the right tools. The first big tool that you will need is a ladder that is study and will hold your weight. You will also need gloves and a water hose. Some people choose to get special tools just for cleaning their gutters that take less time, however, if you are on a strict budget you can do the work with just the few tools that were specified here.
Once you begin, remember to move the ladder as you work. This means that you will have to climb down and back up the ladder. However, many people just lean over to reach as far as they can in order to save themselves having to go up and down the ladder frequently. This is a very unsafe thing to do, and those who do it are at an increased risk of falling down and breaking something, so play it safe and only extend a bit farther than where you are standing.
After you have removed the leaves and other debris that may be present in the gutters, it is time to make sure that the gutter is clear and you have not missed anything. This is where the water hose will come in handy. Climb up the ladder, and if at all possible have someone hand the hose up to you, so that you decrease the chances of falling down due to being tangled up with the hose. Let the water run in the gutters and see if you can see it coming out the other hand. If it does, then you have successful cleaned your gutters, if not, then you need to find out where the blockage is coming from.
Many people also like to take this time and pressure wash the inside of the gutters to remove any buildup of mold or mildew. This is not necessary to do, however, the result of doing so could be the gutters lasting a bit longer and no becoming rusty or inoperative. Remember, if you can have someone else help you, the process will flow much smoother than if you were to do it alone. If not, be sure to take extra caution to prevent personal injury.
